Local Movers in Sonoma County

Moving to or within Northern California is more common than you might think. “Peanuts” creator Charles M. Schulz did both, first moving to Sebastopol in Sonoma County from Minnesota, then to nearby Santa Rosa.

Of course, not everyone will eventually get a county airport named after them. But the scenic Sonoma County, CA, Wine Country has driven many people to make the journey. If you are among them, Turner Moving & Storage can help ease your transition.

And that help will be appreciated if you’re moving when tourism is at its height or when crops are being harvested and knowing the best alternate routes can save you time, money and lots of frustration.

Turner Moving & Storage has been operating in Napa Valley since 1949 and has moving Sonoma County families and businesses for decades. We know every community in the county and we will provide you with a safe and efficient move. Call us at (707) 255-8600 or click here to get a free move estimate.

Pete our driver is such a wonderful and polite person besides being a friend too! 😊 His whole crew from Austin to our destination worked so hard and efficiently to pack up our entire home to make our move transition speedy and effortlessly. We are so thrilled to have had hired Pete and his crew and entire company. If you ever need to move across the country, they’re the best! I would definitely recommend them to others and hire them again! Thank you all so much! 😊

A Few Things To Keep In Mind When Moving to Sonoma County

Avoid weekend moves during tourist season. Sonoma local movers will tell you that May through October is tourist season, and Highway 12, Arnold Drive, and the roads through Sonoma, Glen Ellen and Kenwood will get congested with weekend winery visitors. . A move that would take four hours on a Tuesday could take five or six on a Saturday. If you can move midweek, you’ll save time and likely money.

Plan around fire season. Late summer and fall bring elevated wildfire risk to Sonoma County. Last-minute road closures, evacuation orders or hazardous air quality can derail your move plans. It’s not common enough to avoid those months entirely, but make sure your mover has a backup plan, and keep an eye on Cal Fire updates in the days leading up to your move.

Get a walkthrough. Flat suburban moves are pretty straightforward, but many Sonoma County homes sit on narrow hillside roads, long gravel driveways or rural lanes that can’t accommodate a full-size moving truck. Also, some suburban Sonoma County homes have steep stairs, wraparound decks, detached outbuildings or awkward layouts that are hard to assess from photos alone. A good Sonoma County mover will want to see the property (in person or virtually) before giving you a firm estimate.

Ask about wine collection handling. This might sound niche, but it comes up a lot in Sonoma County. Even a modest home collection of 50 to 100 bottles needs proper packing — wine is heavy, fragile and temperature sensitive. Make sure your mover has boxes with divided cardboard inserts designed for bottles, and understands not to leave packed wine sitting in a hot truck. Ask about climate-controlled storage if needed.

Verify licensing before you sign anything. Unlicensed movers have no regulatory accountability, which means if your belongings are damaged or held hostage for additional payment, you have very little recourse. The best local movers in Sonoma County, like Turner Moving & Storage, are fully insured and hold all required licenses.

Relocations of more than 100 miles are considered long-distance moves, and in Sonoma County, costs can range from $2,280 to $12,920, with an average of $5,168 to $6,840 for 2- or 3-bedroom homes. Long-distance move pricing is based on shipment weight and total mileage, rather than hours.

Turner Moving & Storage offers free moving estimates and assigns a moving coordinator to each move, so our customers are not surprised by the cost. Turner strives to be one of the most affordable moving options in Sonoma County.

Consider the locations of your prior and new residences. Will the moving crew have to navigate stairs? Will there be a longer-than-usual distance between the residence and the truck? If it is a rural location, will the roads accommodate a large truck? How much fuel will it take to get from one location to the other? All of these factors will add to the cost of a move.

Turner Moving & Storage will consider as many factors as possible before giving you a quote for the move, so the final cost should not be a surprise.

Most Sonoma County local movers are fully licensed and insured. It’s important not to move forward with a moving company that does not hold these credentials.
