Dean Turner started Turner Trucking in St. Helena in 1949. It grew into Turner Moving & Storage, and by the late 1950s we were doing full-service moves. For more than 75 years, we have cared for the homes, wine collections and art of Napa Valley families.

Step 1: Survey and Inventory

We visit your home or meet you by video. We list every item, photograph your high-value pieces and measure anything that needs a crate. We never give a blind quote over the phone. We provide your estimate in writing after the survey. Tell us about any piece worth more than $100 per pound so we can list it as an Item of Extraordinary Value.

Step 2: Packing, Crating and Loading

Our packers wrap and pack your home room by room. Art, antiques and statues get wood crates built to fit. Crates take about one to two weeks to build, so call early. Wine is packed with the right materials and moved in climate-stable transport. On moving day, we anchor crates inside our air-cushioned trucks.

Step 3: Delivery, Placement and Walkthrough

Our crew unloads into the rooms you choose. We can unpack, rebuild furniture we took apart and haul away the packing materials. Before we leave, we do a final walkthrough with you and our team leader.

Hillside roads, gates and narrow drives can limit truck size, and some wine country areas need permits for large trucks. We check access before moving day so there are no surprises.

According to Redfin, the median home sale price in Sonoma County over the past three months was $804,640. The Summit sold for about 48 times that. Redfin puts the Napa County median at $883,775 over the same time. That gap shows two markets. One is for everyday homes. Yes, we offer two levels of coverage, and you can choose the one that fits your collection. Limited Liability Coverage is the minimum. It pays 60 cents per pound per item, and the FMCSA shows how little that can be: A 25-pound TV lost or destroyed would pay only $15. Full Value Protection covers the replacement value of lost or damaged goods. Items worth more than $100 per pound, like antiques and fine art, should be listed as articles of extraordinary value on your paperwork. Talk with your moving specialist about this before moving day.

You keep the bottles packed snugly, keep the temperature cool and steady, and list every bottle before the move. Before we come, we suggest you photograph and list your collection. If you own rare bottles, you may also want a wine appraisal from a certified appraiser. Our packers use the right packing materials, and we move your wine in climate-stable transport. Heat is the biggest risk. A wine law resource notes that 55 degrees is the classic cellar temperature and that wine can be cooked within a day above 86 degrees. Never leave bottles in a parked car on a hot Napa afternoon.

Book at least four to six weeks ahead, and earlier if you need custom crates. Crates take about one to two weeks to build. May through September is our busiest time, and harvest traffic from August to October can slow the valley. For long-distance moves, plan for about 3 to 14 days on the road.
