Local Movers in Solano County

One cannot discuss Solano County without talking about its military heritage. Travis Air Force Base spans 6,000 acres near the cities of Fairfield and Vacaville. The base is the county’s largest single employer, supporting a workforce of 13,414, including 7,200 active-duty military members.

But you can’t talk about Travis without first talking about the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo. It was the first United States Navy base established on the Pacific Ocean and was in service for 142 years, from 1854 to 1996.

And you can’t talk about Mare Island without first talking about Admiral David Farragut, the Civil War hero probably best known for his quote during the Battle of Mobile Bay: “Damn the torpedoes … full speed ahead!”

It was Farragut, a one-time Vallejo resident, who first established Mare Island. He would have known something about military moves.

Pete our driver is such a wonderful and polite person besides being a friend too! 😊 His whole crew from Austin to our destination worked so hard and efficiently to pack up our entire home to make our move transition speedy and effortlessly. We are so thrilled to have had hired Pete and his crew and entire company. If you ever need to move across the country, they’re the best! I would definitely recommend them to others and hire them again! Thank you all so much! 😊

We have s very complicated move: from our house, into storage for several, then loaded into a shipping container and shipped to Portugal. We’ve only done the first phase at this point, but Turner Moving has been fantastic. Easy to work with, friendly and very professional. In

A Few Things To Keep In Mind When Moving to Solano County

Don’t get caught off guard when moving in Solano County. Be prepared. Here are the key things worth knowing:

Geography and climate. The western parts of the county, near Vallejo and Benicia, get marine influence — fog, wind and cooler temps — while inland areas like Vacaville and Dixon can hit summertime triple digits. Those swings can matter on moving day. Heat-sensitive items, such as candles and vinyl records, should be handled accordingly. Solano County movers should take care, too.

Traffic and access. I-80 and I-680 are the main corridors, and both can bottleneck badly during commute hours. If movers are coming from the Bay Area, timing the truck to avoid the Carquinez Bridge backup or the I-80/I-680 interchange congestion is important. Some older neighborhoods in Vallejo and Benicia also have narrow streets and steep grades that can be tough for large moving trucks. Seasoned Solano local movers should be aware of alternate routes.

Military details. If you’re moving near Travis Air Force Base, flight noise is a real factor, and housing turnover in surrounding neighborhoods tends to be high. For military relocations specifically, there are regulations on weight allowances and reimbursement that civilians don’t face.

Permitting and HOA rules. Some newer developments in Vacaville and Dixon have strict HOA regulations about move-in windows, elevator reservations (in condo complexes), and even which entrance movers can use. It’s worth confirming those details before scheduling, because violations can result in fines or a need to reschedule entirely.

Seismic readiness. Solano County sits near several active fault systems. Securing tall furniture, water heaters, and heavy items during unpacking isn’t optional — it’s a safety issue. Movers experienced in the region will typically know to flag this during setup.

Local Moving Services in Solano County FAQ

Movers in California typically charge between $120 and $150 per hour, depending on the location, time of year, and the complexity of the move, according to iMoving. Local movers in California typically charge $498 to $1,468, while long-distance moves can range from $2,479 to $5,953, depending on volume, distance, and move type, according to GoodMigrations

Relocations of more than 100 miles are considered long-distance moves in California. Long-distance move pricing is based on shipment weight and total mileage, rather than hours.

Turner Moving & Storage offers free moving estimates and assigns a moving coordinator to each move, so our customers are not surprised by the cost. Turner strives to be one of the best local movers in Solano County.

Consider the locations of your prior and new residences. Will the moving crew have to navigate stairs? Will there be a longer-than-usual distance between the residence and the truck? If it is a rural location, will the roads accommodate a large truck? How much fuel will it take to get from one location to the other? All of these factors will add to the cost of a move.

Turner Moving & Storage will consider as many factors as possible before giving you a quote for the move, so the final cost should not be a surprise.

Most Solano County local movers are fully licensed and insured. It’s important not to move forward with a moving company that does not hold these credentials.

Turner Moving & Storage is fully insured and holds the following licenses:

  • Interstate USDOT 70719
  • Intrastate USDOT 1919262
  • CAL-T 0190536
  • MC 87113

Most movers offer moving valuation options: Limited Liability Coverage and Full Value Protection Coverage. Limited Liability provides minimal coverage at no extra cost, while Full Value Protection covers the replacement value of lost or damaged items. As a ProMover, we offer all coverages at Turner Moving & Storage.

We also hold General Liability and Workers’ Comp. With more than 75 years of experience in the moving industry, we understand the importance of complying with all legal requirements.

“Having full insurance and licensure gives you the peace of mind that your movers are held accountable and follow ethical business practices,” says our CEO, Randy Turner

Most moving companies operate within standard scheduling windows based on availability and demand. At Turner, we work closely with customers to offer flexible scheduling options whenever possible to better accommodate your timeline.

Local moving times can range from 3 to 10 hours, depending on whether it’s a one-bedroom apartment or a 4-bedroom house, according to Angi.

Solano County is home to roughly 83,900 residents aged 65 and older, representing about 18.4% of the county’s population, according to USAFacts. Senior relocations are a significant part of the local moving landscape.

Senior moves differ from typical relocations in several ways. They often involve downsizing decades of accumulated belongings, handling items with deep sentimental value, coordinating with care facilities that have specific move-in windows and elevator reservation requirements, and accommodating mobility limitations.

The moving company you partner with should offer personalized planning, packing tailored to the customer’s pace, setup of the new home to mirror the comfort of the old one, and, when needed, coordination with assisted living facilities.

Turner Moving & Storage provides all of these through our dedicated senior moving services. We are Silver Certified by Wheaton World Wide Moving for older adult relocations, and our crews are trained to handle memory care packing, downsizing assistance, and the emotional dimensions of helping older adults through a major life transition.

“It is important to find a mover who specializes in senior moves. Look for a NASMM partner to ensure you are working with a team trained to work with older adults,” says Randy Turner, President and CEO of Turner Moving & Storage.
