We have s very complicated move: from our house, into storage for several, then loaded into a shipping container and shipped to Portugal. We’ve only done the first phase at this point, but Turner Moving has been fantastic. Easy to work with, friendly and very professional. In

Solano moving tips

Here are some helpful tips to ensure your Solano move with Turner is as organized and stress-free as possible:

  • Start planning early:  Avoid last-minute stress and book your movers 4–6 weeks in advance.
  • Declutter before packing: Only move what you need or want. Save money and time.
  • Label boxes clearly: Write both the contents and their designated room on each box to make unpacking easier.
  • Pack an essentials box: You’ll need items you can use right away, like toiletries, chargers, a change of clothes and important documents.
  • Measure your new space: Will that large leather couch fit? Know in advance what will fit through doors and stairways.
  • Use high-quality materials: Fragile or valuable items need special attention to prevent breakage in transit.
  • Take photos of the electronics setup: Don’t get caught guessing. Have a handy guide available by taking a photo before unplugging.
  • Schedule utility transfers: Plan in advance so your new home is ready when you arrive.
  • Walk through your old home: Always double-check for any items you may have missed.

Learn more about Solano County

Solano County occupies a distinctive geographic position in California’s North Bay. It’s roughly 45 minutes from Sacramento and about an hour from San Francisco. Long known as the Bay Area’s trade corridor heading north and east along I-80, the county is emerging as a location of choice for industries seeking to scale outside San Francisco, Oakland, and Silicon Valley, according to the Solano Economic Development Corporation.

The county’s relative affordability has driven steady in-migration from higher-cost neighboring regions. With median home prices around $585,000 late last year — roughly half of broader Bay Area levels — the county remains a critical market for middle-class families, according to Baker Estate Realty. More recent sales data confirms the trend: in January 2026, the countywide median sale price was $539,000, according to Redfin. The value proposition is stark when set against regional context — during the same period, the median home price for the Bay Area as a whole was just north of $1.3 million, meaning buyers can get a single-family home with a yard in Solano County for the price of a modest condo in San Francisco or San Jose.

The economic engine of Solano County runs on several overlapping tracks. Travis Air Force Base is the county’s largest employer, supporting over 26,000 residents and workers and generating significant annual economic impact for the local community.

Beyond the base, Vacaville’s expanding bio-manufacturing sector has drawn notable investment, including the arrival of Swiss firm Lonza to build on the region’s life sciences cluster. The county has also attracted national attention as the proposed site of California Forever, a Silicon Valley-backed project seeking to build a new city on farmland east of Fairfield.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Forbes article explains, “Hiring local movers involves doing some research to ensure you work with a professional moving company. Ideally, you want to work with a trustworthy local moving company that’s well-known in the area.” Here are four key questions to help you find the best local mover for your needs:

  • Are they a locally-owned, family-owned moving company or a franchise that is part of a nationwide chain?
  • Are they fully licensed with a Cal MTR license number displayed on their website?
  • Can they provide all the services you need?
  • Do they have awards and accreditations from reputable industry authorities?
  • Are they community-minded?

Your move is unique. Finding a moving company that meets those needs will take some research. Asking these questions narrows down your search to only the best and most trustworthy local movers.

At Turner Moving & Storage, we strive to meet all these criteria and more. We are fully licensed with a Cal MTR license number prominently displayed on our website. Our wide range of services, numerous industry awards, and active community involvement demonstrate our dedication to being the best choice for California movers.   And you can get a free quote here.

We are a mover with a 26,000 sq.-ft. warehouse location, full-time, background-checked crews and dozens of trucks. We handle everything directly, from packing, loading, transporting and unloading your belongings with our equipment and staff.

A broker is a middleman and doesn’t own trucks or employ movers. Instead, they sell your move to the lowest-bidding moving company. This can create several risks, including poor communication that may lead to last-minute price increases and a lack of accountability, since the broker isn’t responsible for any damages or problems arising from the move.

According to MoveBuddha, “The average cost of hiring movers in California is $122 per hour, with an average total move cost between $457 and $4,048.” However, prices among local movers can vary significantly. Factors such as distance, the number and type of items, and additional services like packing can affect the cost. Therefore, it’s critical to obtain an accurate estimate from a mover by having a complete survey of your home, either in person or virtually.

At Turner Moving & Storage, we believe in transparency and precision. Our pricing is straightforward and competitive, reflecting our commitment to fair business practices. We provide detailed and accurate estimates through both in-home and virtual surveys to ensure you understand all potential costs upfront. We never provide estimates blindly over the phone, ensuring there are no surprises on your bill.

“Our detailed surveys prevent surprise charges and ensure you pay exactly what we quote—no more, no less,” assures our CEO, Randy Turner.

The timeline for your move will depend on various factors such as distance, the volume of goods, and your individual needs. According to MoveBuddha, “If you’re hiring professional movers for a small local move, it’ll take a few hours.” The exact duration depends on how many items you have, the size of your home, and how accessible your current and new locations are.

At Turner Moving & Storage, we pride ourselves on efficiency and commitment, striving to meet your desired schedule while ensuring the safe transport of your belongings. Connect with one of our move managers today to see how quickly we can handle your move. “Every move has variables, but our experienced crews work efficiently to meet your deadlines. The key is early booking—it gives us flexibility to accommodate your specific timeline,” states our CEO, Randy Turner.

Several moving companies in North Bay offer short- or long-term storage options for customers who need it during their move.

Turner Moving & Storage offers secure storage options at our 26,000 sq.-ft. temperature-stable facility. Our modern storage warehouse features 24/7 surveillance.

“Whether you need storage for a few weeks during a move or several years for business inventory, our facility and team are equipped to meet any storage timeline requirement,” says

Randy Turner, president and CEO of Turner Moving & Storage.

Since July 1, 2025, the Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS) oversees all residential moving companies in California. This ensures that all movers meet safety and operational standards, providing better protection for customers.

It is important to ensure that any moving company you hire is both licensed and insured. Licensed companies are required to comply with specific regulations and maintain high service standards. Insurance protects you from potential damages or losses during the move. Always ask for proof of both licensing and insurance to avoid rogue movers who may offer lower prices but may be operating illegally.

At Turner Moving & Storage, we are fully insured and hold the following licences:

  • Interstate USDOT 70719
  • Intrastate USDOT 1919262
  • CAL-T 0190536
  • MC 87113

For insurance, we hold General Liability and Workers’ Comp. With over 75 years of experience in the moving industry, we understand the importance of complying with all legal requirements. “Having full insurance and licensure gives you the peace of mind that your movers are held accountable and follow ethical business practices,” says our CEO, Randy Turner.

While individual reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, the overall reviews of a moving company can give great insight into how they treat their customers. Move.org suggests, “Find customer reviews on third-party sites like Yelp and Google Reviews instead of just reading the customer reviews that companies share on their websites; those are often cherry-picked and don’t fully reflect actual customer experiences.” The first thing you’ll want to check out is their overall review score. As you delve deeper, ask yourself these questions:

  • How many Google Reviews does the company have?
  • How long ago were the reviews posted?
  • Do they respond to negative reviews, and if so, do they maintain a professional tone?

At Turner Moving & Storage, we take pride in our stellar online reputation. Celebrating our 75th anniversary in 2024, we have been inducted into the Napa Business Hall of Fame for winning the Best of Napa Award for 10 consecutive years. Our CEO, Randy Turner, was featured in Marquis’ 2024 Who’s Who list. Additionally, we were named Favorite Moving Company in Napa Valley’s Finest 2023 by the Napa Valley Register. Our numerous accolades include the prestigious Wheaton World Wide Van Lines Mover of the Year award for 2022, and multiple Spire Quality Awards from 2018 to 2023.

“Ten consecutive Best of Napa awards and industry recognition like Mover of the Year don’t happen by accident. They reflect hundreds of successful moves where we delivered exactly what we promised,” remarks our CEO, Randy Turner. View all of our Google Reviews here.

Be sure to ask about protection for your possessions. All companies must meet the U.S. minimum guaranteed reimbursement of 60 cents per pound. It’s generally not enough, so ask about Full Valuation Protection and request a list of all high-value Items that guarantee a high claim value.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) explains, “A binding estimate guarantees that you cannot be required to pay more than the amount on the estimate. A non-binding estimate is not a guarantee of your final costs, but it should be reasonably accurate.”

We take the utmost care in handling your items. In the unlikely event of damage or loss, most movers offer valuation options: Limited Liability Coverage and Full Value Protection. Limited Liability provides minimal coverage at no extra cost, while Full Value Protection covers the replacement value of lost or damaged items. As a member of the California Moving & Storage Association, we offer all coverages at Turner Moving & Storage.

It depends on several factors, such as the moving company’s popularity, the number of vehicles they have, and their staffing. It’s essential to ask this question up front. No sense wasting your time if they can’t meet your timetable. Planning and booking your move as early as possible can help secure your preferred moving date. Move.org suggests, “Be sure to book your company about six weeks before moving day. If you’re moving from a smaller space, you might be able to book closer to moving day, but sooner is better.”

At Turner Moving & Storage, we understand the unique needs of each client. We’ll work around your schedule to ensure a seamless, stress-free move. Some seasons are busier than others, so certain times fill up faster. If your ideal time slot is open, schedule your move right away so you don’t miss out. “We operate multiple crews and maintain flexible scheduling because your moving date matters. Book early, and we’ll reserve your preferred time slot—but don’t wait, peak seasons fill up fast,” says our CEO, Randy Turner.
